Catholic Ecology Center: Planting Native Prairie Workshop
July 22, 2023 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Learn all about our amazing native pollinator plants, their special characteristics and how to bring them to your yard. This event is open to anyone with an interest in learning more and will visit various restoration sites on the CEC and neighboring properties. Topics will include:
- Why plant natives
- Choosing the right site and right plants
- How to prep the site and When to plant
- Using plants or seeds
We will visit various pollinator and butterfly gardens, several acres of prairie converted from lawn and a new 15-acre pollinator prairie planted in a soybean field.
This workshop will be run by CEC’s executive director Joe Meyer. Joe has been involved in prairie planting and restoration for nearly 20 years. He has planted dozens of butterfly gardens for schools, churches and private land owners, as well as, over 50 acres of land into native prairie. He consults on multiple ecological restoration projects and is excited to share his knowledge, experience and passion with you in this workshop.
